Groves Wins Volta a Catalunya Stage Two as Hvideberg Takes Over Race Lead

INTERNATIONAL: Team Bike Exchange-Jayco bagged a second consecutive stage to win in as many days at the Volta a Catalunya as Kaden Groves took stage two honors on Tuesday 22nd March.

Australian Groves pipped Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain Victorious) in a sprint finish to seal a first career World Tour stage victory as Hugo Hofstetter (Arkéa-Samsic) completed the podium in third place.

The 202.4-km route from L’Escala in Spain to Perpignan, France saw Jonas Iversby Hvideberg become an unexpected race leader after the Team DSM rider grabbed five bonus seconds from his second successive day in the breakaway.

Hvideberg holds a second advantage over yesterday’s stage winner Michael Matthews (Team Bike Exchange-Jayco).

Stage three sees the riders faced with their first mountain test from Perpignan to La Molina.

Meanwhile, cardiac tests conducted on Bahrain Victorious’ Italian rider Sonny Colbrelli have shown no signs of "concern or compromised functions" after he collapsed at the end of the opening stage, where he finished second.
